SERP Snippet Checker

Check SEO Title & Meta Description pixel-perfect

Your SEO title looks perfect in your CMS - but how does it actually appear in Google search results? The character count alone won't tell you. Google truncates titles by pixel width, not by characters. A "W" is twice as wide as an "l" - that's why some 50-character titles get cut off while others with 55 characters display fully. That is exactly why I built this SERP Snippet Checker. It measures the actual pixel width of your title and meta description, shows you a live Google preview and analyzes your title structure for CTR factors. Completely free, runs in your browser, no API or registration needed.

Note: Google truncates titles at around 580px (desktop). The character count alone is not enough - a "W" is wider than an "i". This tool measures the actual pixel width using Arial (Google's SERP font). Sweet spot: 45-58 characters in the title, 120-155 characters in the description.
Add 2-5 competitor snippets and see your own result in the context of a real Google search results page. Your snippet is automatically pulled from the Checker tab.

What this tool does for you

Pixel-perfect measurement, not character counting

Most SERP checkers count characters only - I measure the actual pixel width via your browser's Canvas API. The tool uses Arial as the reference font, the same typeface Google uses in search results. You get separate values for desktop (max. 580px) and mobile (max. 920px).

Title structure analysis

The checker automatically evaluates your title for CTR-relevant factors: Does it contain a number? Brackets? A power word like "guide", "comparison" or "free"? Does it have a separator? Does it start with a capital letter? Each factor is shown as a color-coded tag - so you can see at a glance where there is room for improvement.

Focus keyword tracking

Variant comparison

Save multiple title-description combinations and compare them side by side - with character and pixel values. This way you find the strongest variant before entering it in your CMS.

Live SERP simulation

The feature I have not found in any other free SERP checker: Enter your competitors' titles and descriptions and see your snippet right between the real competitors. Pick the position (1-6) and check whether your result stands out or fades into the background.
Good to know: The tool runs entirely in your browser. No API, no registration, no data storage. Your snippet data never leaves your computer.

How to use the SERP Snippet Checker

Step Action
1 Trage deine URL und dein Focus Keyword ein
2 Write your SEO title - the pixel bars show you live whether it fits
3 Craft the meta description - aim for the green range (120-155 characters)
4 Prüfe die Title-Analysis: Fehlt eine Zahl, ein Power Word oder ein Separator?
5 Save good variants via "+ Save variant"
6 Switch to the "SERP Simulation" tab and add 2-3 competitor snippets
7 Check in the simulation: does your snippet stand out among the competitors?

My tips for better snippets

A strong title is more than just stringing keywords together. The user signals Google derives from search results depend directly on how inviting your snippet looks. Here are the levers I keep seeing in my consulting work:

Title optimization

Place your main keyword as far front as possible in the title. Use numbers ("7 tips", "2026 guide") - they demonstrably increase CTR. Brackets like (guide) or [checklist] catch the eye visually and set expectations. A separator (| or -) cleanly separates topic and context. And my standing advice to clients: avoid the brand name at the end - it wastes precious pixels.

Description optimization

Your meta description is your sales pitch in the SERPs. Start with the most important benefit, not a repetition of the title. Use a clear call-to-action: "Check now", "Try for free", "Step-by-step explained". The focus keyword should be included - Google bolds it in search results, which increases visual attention.

Special characters with care

Certain Unicode characters like ✓, ★ or ▶ can attract attention in the SERPs. But be careful: typographic quotation marks (the "fancy" curly ones), em dashes and non-breaking spaces can be rendered incorrectly by Google. The Special character check in the tool warns you automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is the character count alone not enough for the SEO title?

Google does not truncate titles by characters but by pixel width - at around 580px on desktop. A "W" is significantly wider than an "i", so a 50-character title can get cut off while another with 55 characters displays fully. Only a pixel measurement gives you real certainty.

What pixel width does Google use to render SERPs?

Google uses Arial as the font for search results. The title is truncated at around 580px on desktop and around 920px on mobile. Google shows the meta description in around 2 lines on desktop and around 3 lines on mobile.

What are power words in an SEO title?

Power words are terms that increase click-through rate (CTR) in search results. They include words like "free", "guide", "comparison", "review", "tips", "new" or "best". They create relevance and urgency. The tool automatically detects a curated list of English and German power words.

Does this tool need registration or an API?

No. The SERP Snippet Checker runs entirely in your browser - no API, no registration, no data storage. Pixel measurement is performed via the native Canvas API. Your data never leaves your computer.

What is the benefit of the SERP simulation with competitor snippets?

Most SERP checkers show your snippet in isolation. The simulation here lets you place your result among real competitors - so you instantly see whether your title and description stand out in direct comparison. Just Google your keyword, copy the top results into the tool and compare.

Conclusion

A good SERP snippet decides whether someone clicks on your result - or on the competitor's. I built this checker because I run exactly this check on every client project myself. Now you can do the same: pixel measurement instead of character guessing, title analysis for CTR factors, keyword tracking and a real SERP simulation with competitors - all in one tool. Use the checker before you publish a new article or when reworking existing pages via content audit. Time required: 2 minutes per page. The effect: sustainably better click-through rates.
Tip: Bookmark this page and make the snippet check a permanent part of your SEO workflow.
